Hi. The only advice I give is to relax and put your brain in gear before the bus, good luck. Jim
When I took mine....a while ago now mind....I was told.
Remember the examiners don't get paid very much, that's why their miserable. Drive like you've got Mrs Smith 4 rows back pouring tea out of her Thermos. I'm not sure there's any science in either of those points but they got me through.
The real test comes when you've got passengers sat behind you ;-) I got a card off one of my friends congratulating me that I could now scare 53 people at once.
Hope it goes well
Steve
Hi,
Just found this forum the other day, I have my second test tomorrow.
Last time all my faults were bus stop related as on moving off as I didn't look out of the window, didn't watch the door closing incase any passengers were trapped and didn't check that they were all seated in the mirror before pulling away.
Driving he said was fine, just hope I don't clip a kurb this time.
Thanks
Duncan.

Hi guys,
Im poolyboy and Ive decided to try my hand at driving buses for my next job. Ive really enjoyed what i have been doing over the past few weeks and i want to give it a good go.
Ive been training now for 3 weeks, (1 week doing theory and 2 weeks learning to drive a bus), however i seem to be having problems with my positioning before/during/after negotiating roundabouts, very frequently hitting kerbs on the left and right :sad_1:.... does any one have any tips or hints to help me in this area, as im due to take my driving text in about 2 weeks, but need to eradicate these mistakes.. Im trying to use my own judgement as to the dimensions of the bus but im too inconsistant with it ( the bus is a volvo B10M manual )Thank you for any help guys

Poolboy, steer from your shoulders! When you want to start turning, DONT, wait till your shoulders are level with the corner then turn

hi Matt,
thanks for your reply, really appreciate it. When you say steer from your shoulder..... at what point do i need to start steering? You said dont start to steer when the corner is level with your shoulder

You need to make more use of the mirrors and possibly slow down. Adjust your steering before striking the kerb, if you mount kerbs on the test you will fail as you probably know.
Just remember slow and steady wins the race. The steer from the sholder as i call it came from when my brother got his mits on a 7.5 tonner to move house. He wouldnt let me drive it and kept hitting every kirb in sight. So i just told him "Steer from your sholders" He was treating like a car, the front whees are behind you, hence steer from your sholder. It worked for him. And like Alan says MIRRORS, you cant use em enough:thumb_yello:

just keep things nice and steady, don't rush, keep your brain in gear and remember - observation, observation, observation.

Chat to the examiner and build up a friendship, which i thought helped me relax and do my driving to the best of my ability...
