The Gaffer

About time 2 in my opinion this silly amendment caused a lot of drivers to loose a lot of earnings & it wants to be for all tours at once.
The European Tour Operator’s Association (ETOA), which represents over 100 European tour operators, told its members at a recent seminar in London to anticipate a re-instatement of the 12 Day Rule.
The rule, which allowed coach drivers to take their weekly rest at the beginning of one week and at the end of the following week, was abolished in April last year. Coach drivers have since had to take their rest period every six days without fail.
This has proved detrimental to coach operators, in terms of cost, as companies have had to bring in relief drivers to operate tours and arrange for drivers to take rest days away from home.
Earlier this year, the European Parliament (EP) submitted an amended bill for re-instating the rule and, in order for this to progress, the EU Council of Transport Ministers must support it. A decision is hoped to be announced by early next year.
The ETOA has warned its members that there is a high probability that the 12 Day Rule will be re-introduced for continental tours only and, if this is the case, they will lobby to make sure the rule is re-applied to all tours.
